October 2011

Here are a few pictures from October:
Jack helping Luke with his tummy time.
Jack is finally brave enough to be hung upside down, Dan really had to work with him so he wasn't a scardy cat. And now what is more fun than being hung upside down by your toes and having daddy blow raspberries on your tummy? One day while Luke was napping in his crib this is how I found Jack, with his reading lamp on and just reading a little of the Book of Mormon to Luke.Looking back to October it is crazy to think how little he was. Luke is still a great easy going little fella, he likes to eat and he likes to sleep.

Jack the Tractor

Wade, Grandpa Miller, Jack

Daddy and Jack

As many of you know Jack loves tractors... shocking i know! Anyways my mom recently asked me why when he is pretending to be a tractor or playing with tractors he doesn't make the normal tractor sounds like boys do like vroom rrrrrrrr brrum brum... you know. I told her because to him all tractors sound like the old 1950's John Deere tractors that he drives with Grandpa Miller and with Daddy... All tractors say "bbbbbrrr Pop Pop... Pop Pop... bbbrr Pop Pop Pop Pop......"

My mom just laughs every time he being a tractor, he is very vintage you know!

Work Party

Last night was dan's work party, it was a lot of fun. We got to see Santa and get a present and candy cane and eat yummy dinner and cake, and play a present exchange gift with the adults (how did I end up with the BYU cougar gnome?? dan says we'll use it for target practice) and then we went bowling, Jack LOVED bowling, it was super fun, he had a lane all to himself. When Santa visited all the children he asked them to go up on the stage and sing jingle bells with him. So Jack actually went up, but Santa was one the right side of the stage with all the kids singing, and Jack was all by himself on the far left... thats as close as he was getting by himself, it was pretty funny. We were just excited he actually went up. He wasn't scared of Santa when he visited him with Dad, and he actually smiled at him.
So that night for our prayers it went like this:

Dan: Dear Heavenly Father
Jack: Dear Heavenly Father
D: Thank thee for the gospel
J: Thank thee gospel
D:Thank thee for the prophet
J: Thank thee prophet
D: Thank thee for the fun party
J: Thank thee fun party
D: Thank thee for our family
J: Thank thee Santa.....

Family History

As some of you know I am my ward's Family History Consultant. And I am in a rut. I really have been struggling for the last year or so with finding a way to magnify my calling. I really do want to do my best and do what I am supposed to be doing, not just having a calling and not doing a thing about it. I've done a little work with teaching indexing and a youth fireside, and a couple fifth Sunday lessons on indexing and New Family Search. But the thing is I don't know what to do from here. I am having a hard time coming up with ideas of how to help those in my ward, or even to get them interested and motivated.

So this is what I want to know from you: What do you wish your Family History Consultant would do for you? What questions do you have? Do you feel like you want to do something but don't know where to start? What would you like to do? How would you feel about having a consultant in your home teaching you and helping you research?

Jack, Gram and Luke. Just being happy.Luke 1 week old!First Family Picture! Dan's too cool for Halloween shirts so he is being trendy in his Mac shirt :)Gram took us to a fun pumpkin patch to pick our pumpkins. It was really cute, tons of pumpkins, a little maze to go through, they all had a lot of fun, Dan was in the car with Luke.
Finding a pumpkin for Luke. Jack is so wonderful, I just love him to bits. With Gram and Carol and John.
Jack is spoiled and got to ride in the wagon. Thanks Sina for finding this fun spot.Luke Richard getting acquainted with his namesake Papa. I think Papa loves him, what do you think? My beautiful baby. At his 2 week checkup he was 10 pounds 6 ounces! He is a good eater! Luke is a very calm baby, he hardly ever cries, he sleeps well, and eats well, and is generally content. Jack is so in love with his little brother. He is getting better about being soft and knowing what you can and can't do with a baby. He loves to play with him, or around him. He is always concerned about his whereabouts, or if he cries he is the first to locate the "paciieefier", if he cries more, you can hear jack consoling him saying "whats wrong Luke? whats wrong Luke?" He loves to bounce him softly and sing rock a baby. When we first took Luke to visit Grandma and Grandpa, Jack was very concerned that we might leave Luke with Grandma, and let me tell you that wasn't happening, he was going to make dead certain he came home with us. On the way home in the car one day Luke was crying and Jack kept telling him over and over "Its ok Luke, its ok Luke, almost, almost (as in almost there)." He is the sweetest big brother to the sweetest little brother around. I love them both. Before I had Luke I was concerned about how could my love grow to love another child as much as I love Jack? Well let me tell you its easy, and it just happens, its a silly concern.

Happy Birthday Jack!

The day we came home with Luke from the hospital was October 1st! Jacks Birthday!! It was a fun day and so nice to be home to celebrate with him. He has grown up so much and is such a good little boy. He loved his cake and was totally excited about his birthday party. I had been telling him for weeks that his birthday was in a couple days. We had baked his cake and froze it earlier and wrapped his present and put it up in the closet to wait. I'm glad I was prepared. So the morning of his Birthday Gram tells him Happy Birthday Jack!! And he says.. no in a couple hours... Later Dan told him Happy Birthday! And he said no in a couple days... I guess I really had been telling him that a lot. Here is our beautiful boy..

It was so fun to have grandparents come to celebrate. Most of Jack's favorite people.

It was really cute, while we were eating cake and icecream Luke was in his bouncy and Jack thought it would be nice to let him have a taste of icecream. It was so cute to see him try to share his goodies. Also Jack ate the frosting off of his cake then had gram switch cakes with him so he could eat her frosting too.
After we had cake and icecream it was dinner time (i know a little backwards). Dan lit up a fire in the firepit and Dan, Gram and Jack cooked hotdogs on the fire and burned boxes and wrapping paper. It couldn't have been a better time for Jack. Happy Birthday my sweet Jack Jack I love you very much.

TMI for men (BREASTFEEDING)

If you are a man stop reading immediately....

now that we have that settled I have a question for you nursing mothers out there.
I was nursing Luke but my right side became very sore and lets say wounded, anyways I can't nurse on that side currently so I just pump and feed him with a bottle from that side. I still nurse on my left side, however Luke is becoming a lazy eater when nursing and I'm not producing as much on that side so I also pump that side after he nurses. So how would you suggest I get him to nurse better? I really would like to resume nursing both sides after I heal on the right, not sure what to do...

Hospital and Home

Luke and Mommy a few hours after he was born... We don't have any pictures of him right after he came... we didn't really have time to worry about having the camera handy...
After a nice tub. All clean and fuzzy hair.
Big Brother Jack so proud to have a baby! Went to the store and got the perfect balloon announcing to the world that he had a special delivery. My mom said when they came out of the store people were just grinning at him because he was so proud to have his balloon and to go see baby Luke. What a sweet brother he is. I love him so much.
Loving to hold baby Luke. And I was so happy to see my little man again.
Isn't he handsome??
Getting dressed to come home! This was such an easy little boy, no jaundice, no problems... just ready to be home.
Finally home.
Mom and her two sweet boys. We couldn't be any happier. And we got to come home on Jack's birthday October 1st, what a great way to spend the day!

Tractor Rides

Grandpa is always good for a nice tractor ride... I think its funny how there is only one little boy on the entire hay wagon (of course it doesn't take long for it to fill up).

Jack

Well September and October have been exciting months for us this year. This summer Jack got a new bigger 4 wheeler and it has been very fun! He loves to drive like a maniac all over the yard and in the dirt and mounds across the road. It has been fun watching him be a hot shot.

I took some blankets to the laundramat.. boy was that SUPER fun to see at the machines. Judging by the fun Jack was having you would think we were at Disneyland.

And we have also been working on computer skills playing curious george....

Baby Luke

Our sweet baby Luke Richard Miller arrived in fashion today. He is a healthy little boy 8 pounds 1 ounce and 21.5 inches. Here is our CrAzY story....

I woke up at midnight having a few irregular contractions. I was thinking "stupid braxton hicks, they are so annoying, I can't even sleep totally." Fast forward to 2 a.m. The contractions started a little more regularly about 6 min apart, but they weren't progressing so I was just annoyed thinking this is false labor and I am losing precious sleep. About 3:30 Dan came out to see if I was ok, i told him I was fine just false labor. Around 4 I decided to take a hot bath to see if it would stop already. It didnt seem to help, but when I was standing up I had more frequent small contractions, when I layed down after the tub they spread out but were longer. So I was thinking this is pretty irregular this cannot be real labor, if I go in they will send me home. Dan was getting worried so he suggested we call his parents that live in Menan (25 min away) to head over since they would have to get up and drive here. I said no lets wait a few and see if they progress at all. After a bit I said ok fine lets call, still thinking we would go to the hospital and they would either send me home or I would have forever to go, or I could wait till my doctor appointment at 10:50 in the morning and see what the dr says. So we call mom and dad, and in the 30 minutes it took them to get to our house I went from thinking it was false labor to knowing the baby was starting to come out. I had dan pack up the car while we waited, Jack woke up and layed on the couch wondering what was going on. He lovingly asked "momma tummy hurt," then he let me know his tummy really hurt have a cookie and milk??? So dan and I jump in the car when they get to our house and I am really starting to wonder if we will make it in time. I tell dan as we pull out "please SPEED!" So we are zooming down ammon road at about 65mph, and I tell dan speed but don't get pulled over. By the time we get to 17th street I am yelling in the car OH NO OH NO BABY DONT COME OUT PLEASE WAIT OH NO OUCH OUCH OH MY GOSH!!!! So dan is now REALLY speeding down and running all the red lights, luckily there were very few cars, we have our flashers on the car going and this is when he knows that if a cop does try to pull us over he is just going to have to chase us down to the hospital. We part right at the front door of the hospital with our flashers on and leave the car sitting there. Dan runs ahead of me and tells admitting that I am having a baby RIGHT NOW! They tell us to go right upstairs. We take the elevator and these contractions are right on top of eachother and I can feel the baby's head coming. We get to the nurse station and they hussle me to a room and inbetween contractions we rip off my clothes and get me in bed. This is when I tell the nurse the baby is coming the baby is coming, and she is trying to tell me to calm down and to breath, keep trying to breath. I am having so many contractions she can't get the monitor to read the baby's heart so she is concerned and asking me to roll over, and I am stuck on my side ripping the arm rail off the bed in pain, trying to explain I am having the baby NOW!!!! She checks me and knows I am having the baby NOW! She asks me if I was planning a natural birth and I say NOOOOO!!! She says its too late for anything, there was barely enough time to get an IV in. So I had to do it all natural. And I took at her with pleading eyes "are you sure there isnt anything you can give me" she says no its too late he will be he in just a second. Dr Huggins arrives and slips her hands into her gown and delivers the baby. Just like that. HOLY CROW!!!!! We got to the hospital at 5:50 and he was born at 6:05! It was sooooo scary and painful getting over the transition, but it is weird how your body changes and you can go from crying in pain to shaking gripping the bed and knowing it will be ok. Luke had some meconium but they sucked him out and he was just fine. the pediatrician didn't even make it in time. I have noticed a great plus to natural birth is that you recover WAY faster. I got up and showered right away and walked around and got makeup on, and I don't feel so foggy and wasted oddly enough. Later a nurses aide can in to bring me an ice pack and she asked how labor went, I told her fast, and she laughed and said that the nurse had said you came in ripping your clothes off knowing the baby was here. HAHA. We will get pictures up here soon so you can see our little bundle of joy.

Oh dear....

So tonight Jack was sitting at the kitchen table playing a curious George computer game. The game is one where you decorate a pinata with different colors and stamp shapes then when you are done George will hit the pinata and prizes fall out. Anyways its great for jack to learn to use the mouse and coordinate it with the computer, you know fine motor skills. ANYHOW, he was trying to make the pinata a certain color, and you know how sometimes the mouse can be really sensitive, well he was having a hard time getting it right on the color, you have to be really accurate. So he keeps trying to put it on the color and that's when he says matter of factly "DAMMIT!" ...... oh dear.

Baby 2 update

Today is Tuesday.. I have about 5 more days until I am induced... and I have no hope the way things are going that I will have this baby before then. I am still hoping for Oct 1 .... Oct 1..... Oct1..... Oct 1...... we will see how that turns out. Not feeling very hopeful.

Baby 2

One quick update. I am set to be induced Oct 3. I am at a 3 and the doc said she doesn't think I will make it that far. Lets pray she is right. Baby is doing great and sounding healthy. Lets do a poll.. Baby Emmett Richard Miller or Baby Luke Richard Miller? I think we have it pretty much decided on already, but what do you think?

True Love

I know I need to catch up on my blog desperatly. I've been going through my pictures getting them all organized and put into Jack's photo album, once that is tackled I'll try to post some here. But in the meantime doesn't this picture just speak to the heart?

Garage Sales

This year I would really like to try my luck at some garage sales. I'm searching for some good outside toys for Jack. Like a crazy coupe type car and a slide.

I've been to garage sales all of like 2 times.

So whats your tricks? When and where do I know when to go? Do you barter? Anyone want someone to tag along??
