Jack's Story
September 30th I woke up at 9 a.m. to use the potty. I went to lay down again for a couple minutes and suddenly I felt like I pooped my pants with nasty diahhrea or something. I was so grossed out and thought I got the poop on the bed so I tried to crawl out without getting it everywhere. Once I finally stood up I took a look and to my shock there was no poop. Thats when I realized either my bladder was failing me or my water broke, and since I had just gone potty I figured it was the latter. I rushed to the bathroom and I was AMAZED at what it was like when your water breaks. Seriously it just doesn't stop coming. I realized I was one day away from being 36 weeks. I called Dan at work and this is about how our converstation went:
T: Hey are you busy?
Dan: Hey, ya can I call you back in a bit?
T: um, ok, but I just wanted you to know that my water just broke.
Silence....
Dan: Oh ____. (more silence) ok I am on my way home.
Dan seemed pretty shocked and dumbfounded. I bustled around the house making sure our bags were ready and got ready to go in myself. Dan got home, I called into labor and delivery to tell them and they told me to come in asap. I figured they just wanted to make sure my water really did break and send me home till my contractions were really happening. So far no contractions. On the way to the hospital Dan basically forgot how to drive and how to get to the hospital, and how to look and see if there is a green light or red light. Luckily I could help him by say TURN HERE! and STOP!!! He was having a hard time concentrating on the road. We were both a bit jittery.
At the OB emergency services they wanted to do a couple tests to make sure my water had really broke (and trust me there was no question about it). Then they did an ultrasound to make sure Jack was in the right position, which he was. An finally they wanted to see how dialated I was. This is where the problems started. My cervix was up so high and posterior that the female doctor couldn't even reach it. The male resident tried and could barely barely reach it and guessed I was only about a 1, perhaps a 2, but it was hard to tell. They kept me and admitted me to my sweet room in L&D. Dan and I waited awhile to see if anything would happen, a couple hours later the doc checked again but she couldn't reach the cervix still. They decided to give me some meds to help "ripen" my cervix. After 4 hours they checked it and it was nice and thin but not dialated. Sooo they started pitocin at around 7 p.m. to get things going. Around 10 p.m. they checked again and I was about a 4. Time for an epidural, I was really starting to feel it, I'm not much on excessive amounts a pain. It took the anestiesiologist FOREVER to get it in and a couple attempts. I have to say that was definatly the worst part about childbirth having contractions one after another while they was poking my back to pieces, but once it was in and working MAN ALIVE it was great. At midnight they checked me again, still at a 4. Around 1:55 I asked if they could check me again because I was feeling a lot of pressure. Dan was over in the corner on a cot dozing here and there and when the doc came in he didnt even get up because we all assumed even the doc that I would still have a bit to go. Much to our suprise I was ready ready and Jack was coming NOW. I have to say the delivery was great. Not at all what I expected. I didn't think it was possible to laugh and joke during delivery. And before I knew it our precious baby was here. Dan did great, and was a great support to me the entire time. My nurses were so wonderful and my doctor was amazing. Jack had a little bath that Dan helped with and even put on the first diaper. Jack is such a little guy, but OOHHHH SSOOOO ADORABLE. I feel so blessed to have him.
The first day was great having him, so snuggly and cute. He has some problems latching on and breast feeding so it was pretty hard at first trying to figure out how to help the little guy eat. We went through about 4 different ways of trying to get him to breast feed, finally with the shield it all worked out. He is definalty his daddy's boy. His face and little chin, and all those farts. lol. He was a bit jaundice so about the 3rd day in the hospital they took him to put him under the lights. He stayed there overnight and we took him home on saturday and put him under lights at home for a couple days. I took him into the doctor's office on monday to get his billirubin checked again and to get his first checkup. The billirubin came back great so we took off the lights. It was soo nice to finally get to hold him and snuggle with him. Being a mom is amazing. It is so STRESSFULL. I never realized the stress that comes with parenthood, something I dont think one can understand till it happens. Jack is so sweet and finally getting into the swing of things. He is a very good baby. Due to him coming early his pediatrician advised me not to take him out anywhere, no crowds, no passing him around because he is at higher risk of catching something. So no baby showers for us. But I would like to thank all of you who planned one, I appreciate it so much, all that effort. Thank you. I know I am forgetting a load of details. But I just want to share these pictures with you, and thank you for all your love and support.

The proud mommy and the proud Grandma. With cute little Jack in his candy corn hat that the nurses gave us since he was so dead set on being an October baby.
Eating out of a little cup, trying to figure out a way to eat.
And what a proud Daddy.
This clip is for all of THE OFFICE junkies out there. Think back to the first episode of this season when Kelly is talking about her diet.... It was filmed at about 2:30 am after childbirth.

My sound isn't working, but I can tell on that top video that he must know your voice, he was all turning his head to your voice. I want to come see him again. When can we come visit? I'm so glad he came so fast & with relatively little problems.

I love the amazing clip, you sounded just like her. You actually let Dan take a video of you after giving birth, now that is amazing. Love the pictures. I see you have the Boppy in one of those pictures I hope it is working out.
I forgot to say, I love the conversation with Dan and how you were so calm.
